Community Development Department

The Department of Community Development serves as an agent for the implementation of City Council policy, as that policy relates to maintaining and improving the City of Jefferson. The Department pledges to uphold the City’s traditionally high standards of development by providing prompt, efficient, and courteous service to the people of Jefferson City.

The Department of Community Development is divided into four services (Code Enforcement, Public Works, Planning and Transportation, Wastewater), each of which are composed of divisions. Please visit the division Web sites to become familiar with the responsibilities of the Department of Community Development. Essential forms, ordinances, and notices will also be found within the appropriate division’s Web site.

Important Issues

The Public Works and Planning Committee on October 18, 2007 approved changes to codes pertaining to sidewalks that will be advanced to the City Council on November 5, 2007.  The changes are summarized on the following link. Sidewalk Summary-Redlines

The Citizen Information Series are brochures that are available in the Department of Community Development (lower level of City Hall), 320 E. McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. 

The brochures are designed to give general information regarding topics related to Community Development.
