Q: What is the adoption fee and what does it cover?

A: $50.  Spay/Neuter, Rabies vaccination, microchip, vet exam, and first series of vaccinations.


Q: How do I adopt a pet?

A: Visit the shelter, talk to staff about an animal and fill out the paperwork.


Q: What happens if the adopted pet does not work out?

A: You can return the animal, but we cannot refund the money.

Q: How can I make a donation to help the animals in the shelter?

A: Call the Director at (573) 634-6429.


Q: Where are you located?

A: 919 East Miller Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101


Q: What are your hours that you are open for the public?

A: Monday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


Q: Do you take volunteers?

A: Yes, we have an application that will need to be filled out.


Q: How long does the shelter hold animals before they are evaluated?

A: 5 days.


Q: Do you offer free or discounted spay/neuter services?

A: No, but you can call the Heart of Missouri Humane Society at (573) 761-3900.


Q: Do you offer veterinary services for the public?

A: No we cannot offer veterinary services to the public.

Q: Is there a leash law in town?

A: Yes for dogs and for cats.


Q: How many animals can a person own?

A: There is not a current limit on the number of dogs and cats.


Q: Does animal control trap wildlife?

A: Yes, if you have a nuisance animal, you will need to call the shelter and make arrangements for a trap.


Q: Is there a law on cleaning up after your animals?

A: Yes, you are required to pick up after your dog whether it is in their pen, your yard, or your neighbors yard.
