The Department of Community Development’s Planning Division works to maintain and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors of the City of Jefferson.
The Planning Division is engaged in both Long Range and Current planning activities. Current planning efforts primarily focus on development review and zoning administration activities. Each month, the Division responds to a variety of requests that include:
| Zoning Changes |
Planned Developments |
| Subdivisions |
Special Exceptions |
| Variances |
Conditional Uses |
| Site Plans |
Parcel Divisions |
| Plan Revisions |
Addressing |
Many of these requests require formal review and approval by the Board of Adjustment, the Planning and Zoning Commission and/or the City Council.
The Planning staff act as advocates for neighborhood planning, and the Division strives to ensure that zoning, subdivision, and development regulations are relevant and beneficial to the City of Jefferson. Staff members assist the City Council, Administrators, Boards, and Commissions with matters related to planning and development.

We work to preserve and promote a high quality and livable community that reflects Jefferson City's culture, population, history and sense of place. The City of Jefferson is an exceptional place to live and work and has a strong and unique position as the state's center of government and a center of learning and commerce.
