JEFFTRAN serves the Capital of Missouri, Jefferson City, with public transportation Monday through Friday all year round. Jefferson City has a population of 39,636 (2000 Census Data) but during the past twelve months we have served approximately 329,254 passengers. The boundaries of our city are influenced by natural barriers such as the Missouri River cutting diagonally across much of the city. However, most residents and businesses are located in the beautiful hills and valleys on the south bank of the river. Consequently, Jefferson City does not have a single center of business and industry. Over the years, businesses, hospitals, retail outlets, and enterprises of all kinds have arisen in all parts of the city. JEFFTRAN provides citizens which have no other means of transportation a way to shop, go to the doctor, visit a restaurant, get to a class, or arrive at work. And let's face it, with today's gas prices, JEFFTRAN is a great value for everyone!
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color and national origin in programs and activities receiving Federal financial assistance. Specifically, Title VI provides that “no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” (42 U.S.C. Section 2000d). JEFFTRAN is committed to ensuring that no person is excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of its transit services on the basis of race, color, or national origin, as protected by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Next meeting is scheduled for October 28, 2008.
