JJ Newberry Fire 214 E High and Meyer Hardware at 216 E. High St.
A volunteer fireman from Linn who owned a produce shop nearby was helping the JCFD and about 30 minutes into the fire the volunteer Fred Otto collapsed.
JCFD members used the resuscitator on Mr. Otto. Firemen Ralph Erhardt and Dorsey Pendelton were hospitalized with smoke inhalation and released the next morning.
