The Gasoline Tanker Accident occur on US Highway 54 at Jefferson St. overpass. The tanker was
hauling a total of 8,500 gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel with 1,000 gallons of ethanol. The ethanol the truck was hauling made the fire extremely hot and caused the destruction of the Jefferson Street Overpass.
The driver was killed in the accident. Twenty off duty firefighters were recalled, all companies, and 3 tankers responded. There were a number of fires in creeks and waterways all controlled by Jefferson City Fire Department.
