The Mission of the Jefferson City Fire Department is to provide generally for the protection of life and property by controlling and extinguishing fires, rescuing trapped persons, rendering emergency medical treatment, and assisting other departments of city government when there is a need.
Jefferson City Fire Department is very active within the community. The department provides fire safety training to the public, workplace, etc.
Some of the programs that JCFD provides to the public are: fire extinguisher training in the workplace,
fire drill in the workplace and schools, safety training, and fire station tours.
JCFD is a part of the Safe Kids coalition which provides a fire safety trailer to tour the community and train the community in what to do in case of a fire in the home.
In 2000, the department made contact with nearly 10,000 people in fire education and safety.
In Jefferson City we have numerous state buildings including the State Capitol, three large prisons. and numerous large industrial sites.
The department has a four story training center that is designed for all different types of exercises including live burns, repelling, and ventilation. Also with-in the training center is an underground drafting pit for training and pump testing apparatus.
The Jefferson City Fire Department is a City Fire Department and currently has a fully paid staff of 76 members, operating out of 5 Stations, protecting an area of 39 Sq. miles with a population of 39,000. Currently the Department has an ISO rating of class 3.
Jefferson City Fire Department responded to 4099 emergencies in 2007. In the spring of 1997 the department started responding to EMS calls within the city. The entire staff is EMT licensed, and the in-service apparatus have AED's.
