With the nice warm fall weather here the Jefferson City Fire Department would like to remind residents of Jefferson City that Open burning of leaves, grass clippings, vegetation grown on property is permitted during November 15, thru March 15 during daylight hours only. Fire Department personnel have been working with neighborhoods educating residents of the new ordinance. Violators of the ordinance are subject to citations for the violations.
During the open burning calendar time the Jefferson City Fire Dept. would like to remind citizens of some simple safety issues. All fires be supervised by an adult who is present during the burning. A garden hose, fire extinguisher or other means of controlling the fire be present at the fire in case a problem develops. Burning in a barrel is highly recommended. Avoid burning on windy days.
Do not burn in the street or curb lines of the street. It is recommended that all fires be in small piles to prevent large amounts of smoke, 10-15 feet from property lines, structures and power lines.
Smoke from fires may not be welcomed by your neighbors. A complaint on open burning fire can lead to the extinguishment of the fire by the Fire Department.
Violators of the ordinance are subject to citations for the violations.
The Jefferson City Fire Department would like for citizens of Jefferson City to utilize the compost facilities at 2606 W. Edgewood. Waste that will be accepted is: Iimbs 8" diameter or less and in 4' or less lengths, grass clippings, leaves, wood chips, and flocked Christmas trees.
