INTERN (1)

Minimum qualifications:  Graduate and/or undergraduate student in an NRPA accredited college or university park and recreation program assigned by the school to a fieldwork experience for academic credit.

Pay:  $7.50 per hour in addition to academic credit.

Responsibilities:  The general fieldwork experience will introduce the student to all facets of the City of Jefferson Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry.  Our internship Manual, available upon request, provides complete information. 

Hours:  Contact hours will be established by the university’s intern supervisor and the Recreation Facilities and Special Services Division Director.  Generally, interns are expected to work shifts comparable to that of the staff members with whom he/she is assigned for that period.


ICE ARENA MANAGER/ASSISTANT MANAGER (3)

Minimum qualifications:  20 years of age preferred; First Aid and CPR certification required; experience in employee supervision and customer service preferred.

Pay:  $8.50 - $10.50 per hour.

Responsibilities:  Employee supervision and motivation; facility cleanliness and safety; maintaining quality ice conditions; public relations; attend to all daily tasks necessary for the efficient and effective operation of the Ice Arena as assigned; accurate record keeping; reading and recording compressor data; manager or assistant manager will be on duty at all public sessions.

Hours:  20-30 per week throughout Ice Arena season.  Hours will be predominantly during public sessions which are scheduled on weekends and in the evenings.

 


ICE ARENA FACILITY SUPERVISOR

Minimum qualifications:  18 years of age preferred; First Aid and CPR certification

required; ability to deal effectively with facility users to gain their respect and cooperation.

Pay:  $8.50 - $10.50 per hour.

Responsibilities:  Facility supervision, cleanliness and safety; maintaining quality ice; public relations; management of facility users including possible disciplinary measures; facility security; reading and recording compressor data.

Hours:  Late night and early morning (10 p.m. – 8 a.m.) supervision of the Ice Arena facility during rentals and other programs.  Number of hours per week will vary with rental schedule.


ICE ARENA CUSTOMER SERVICE ATTENDANTS (15+)

Minimum qualifications:  16 YEARS OF AGE PREFERRED; First Aid and CPR certification required; previous money handling experience preferred; experience in the operation of an electronic cash register preferred; concession experience preferred; ability to deal with the public in a cordial, cooperative, friendly manner required; ability to consistently and equitably enforce facility rules and regulations; skating skill is not a requirement for this position, but is preferred.

Pay:  $6.65 - $7.25

Responsibilities:  Facility cleanliness / custodial duties in and around the facility; collection of Ice Arena admission fees; public relations; concessions preparation, sales and cleanliness; supervision of participants and enforcement of rules and regulations; care and maintenance of skates and skate shop area; other duties as assigned.

Hours:  Flexible dependent upon individual needs; most attendants work 15-25 hours per week with a significant portion of the hours on weekend


SKATING INSTRUCTORS

Minimum Qualifications:  16 years of age preferred; First Aid and CPR certification preferred; excellent skating skills; experience in ISI skating program strongly preferred; previous teaching experience preferred; familiarity with ISI instructional programs; ISI Freestyle 4 or equivalent in USFS preferred.

Pay:  $7.50 - $12.00 per hour.

Responsibilities:  Instruction in the Parks and Recreation skating lessons utilizing ISI techniques; organize and teach group skating lessons to various age and ability levels, including hockey skills.

Hours:  Pre-School lessons are held Monday and Thursday mornings and afternoons.  Youth lessons are conducted on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings.  There is considerable flexibility in this schedule.  If a qualified applicant is available only at particular times, he/she is still encouraged to apply.


SYNCHRONIZED SKATING INSTRUCTOR

Minimum Qualifications:  18 years of age preferred; First Aid and CPR certification preferred; excellent skating skills; experience in ISI synchronized skating program strongly preferred; previous teaching experience preferred; familiarity with ISI instructional programs; ISI Freestyle 4 or equivalent in USFS preferred.

Pay:  $7.50 - $12.00 per hour.

Responsibilities:  Instruction in the Parks and Recreation synchronized skating practices; help to choreograph and teach 1 to 2 programs for competition and exhibition purposes; travel to competitions with the teams; attendance at practices and all competitions for the team are mandatory even over the holiday seasons.

Hours:  Majority of practices are on Sunday evenings with the exception of a few Monday evenings. Exhibitions and ice show date are all local. Travel is within ISI District 9 with the exception of ISI Synchronized Skating Nationals to be held in the Chicago area in April.


GOLF COURSE CLUB HOUSE ATTENDANTS (2)

Minimum Qualifications:  Minimum 16 years of age; experience in golf, merchandising, and concession/food preparation preferred; adaptable schedule and strong "people" skills required; ability to lift at least 30 lbs.

Pay:  $6.65 - $7.25 per hour.

Responsibilities:  Customer service, clubhouse cleanliness and appearance; enforcement of facility policies; cash register and concession equipment operation; sales of golf equipment; operation of driving range and more.

Hours:  Golf Course is open seven days a week, weather permitting.   The course opens between 6:30 - 9:30 a.m. depending on the time of year and closes at dark.


PARK/GOLF COURSE/ATHLETIC FIELD MAINTENANCE ASSISTANTS

Minimum Qualifications:  18 years of age preferred; 16 years of age required; valid Missouri Class E or higher driver's license preferred; grounds maintenance, recreation facility maintenance, athletic field maintenance and  construction experience preferred.

Pay:  $7.00 - $8.00 per hour.

Hours:  7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. weekend work required;  Parks, Golf Course, and Athletic Field Maintenance positions are filled on a seasonal, as needed basis.


HO-HO-HOLIDAY CAMP STAFF (3-4)

(for children ages 5-12) - Shikles Recreation Center; activities include arts and crafts, games and physical activities, and much more.

Dates: Six,  one-day sessions: December 24, 26, 29, 30, 31, & January 2.

Minimum Qualifications:  18 years of age preferred; related degree preferred; teaching experience preferred; First Aid and CPR certification required; experience working with children preferred.

Pay:      Leader - $8.00 - $9.00/hr.

Staff - $7.00 - $8.00/hr.

Responsibilities: Implement, instruct, supervise camp program.

Hours:  7:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. (after camp skate from 3:15 - 5:30 p.m.; except for Dec. 24)


  

LEISURE CLASS INSTRUCTORS

Minimum Qualifications:  21 years of age preferred; demonstrated skill in a leisure pursuit of interest to others and willingness to share that skill through teaching; teaching experience preferred but not mandatory; Parks and Recreation is particularly interested in recruiting instructors with skills in outdoor recreation/education for classes utilizing Binder Park.

Pay:  Hourly, dependent upon skill and class popularity.

Responsibilities: Instruct class in a leisure skill; Parks and Recreation typically provides or arranges the facility and the instructor provides all other equipment and supplies; dependable, conscientious, enthusiastic instructors needed for year-around leisure education program.

Hours: Classes are generally at the convenience of the instructor and are scheduled into time slots conducive to the activity and to the attraction of students.  Classes typically last four to six weeks and meet at the same time each week.  However, some classes are single meetings.  There is considerable flexibility depending upon the activity. 


Friday Night Recreation/Special Olympics Attendant (1-2)

Minimum Qualifications: 21 years of age preferred, 18 years of age required; degree in Special Education, Therapeutic Recreation, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or similar degree field preferred; First aid and CPR certification required; experience with special needs adults preferred; experience in developing and implementing recreational program for disabled adults preferred; experience in working with adults in sporting program with disabilities preferred.  Some computer skills required for database management.  Pay: $8.00 to $10.25 per hour.

Responsibilities: Plan, implement and supervise adaptive recreation/sports programs.

Hours: Friday nights (every week September-May), (two Fridays per month June-August) for 3 to 4 hours per week, Saturday mornings November-May) for 3 to 4 hours per week, except holiday weekends, and additional time in planning and organizing activities and in record-keeping. Two to three possible weekend trips per year for Special Olympics.

 


HAYRIDE DRIVERS (3-4)

Minimum Qualifications:  18 years if age required; First Aid and CPR certification preferred; Experience in operating tractors required; Familiarity with and ability to check fluid/fuel levels on tractor;  Ability to lift up to 40 pounds required; good customer relations skills a necessity.

Pay: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour.

Responsibilities:  Operate the Parks and Recreation's Hayride program by setting up for and driving hayride tractor and wagons, starting campfires, running the rides while maintaining a schedule, calling participants upon weather cancellations.

Hours:  Program runs from September through November and April through May.  Flexible hours depending upon scheduled hayrides and availability of driver.  Hayrides are offered on week days between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., on week day evenings from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., and on week ends from 12:00 noon until 10:00 p.m.  Driver can choose between week days, week nights and week ends.


KICKBALL UMPIRES

Minimum Qualifications:  18 years of age preferred; ASA softball certification or knowledge of ASA softball rules preferred.

Pay:   $13.00 per game

Responsibilities: Umpire and record score at adult co-rec kickball games using the one-umpire system; administer games in a professional and responsible manner according to Parks and Recreation guidelines.  Games will be played according to basic softball rules with modifications.

Hours: Thursday evenings.


ATHLETIC FIELD SUPERVISOR (2-3)

Facilities: Optimist and Binder Sports Complexes.

Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age preferred; strong public relation skills; responsible; general knowledge of flag football, youth softball and/or adult slow pitch softball rules preferred; ability to work with little supervision.

Pay: $8.00 - $9.00 per hour.  

Responsibilities: Supervise flag football and youth softball programs/facility or adult slow pitch softball program/facility; serve as on-site representative for Parks and Recreation Department; handle game related problems with players or fans; supervise program staff; record-keeping.

Days/Hours: Optimist Sports Complex  - Monday through Thursday (approximately 5:30 - 9:30 p.m.) and Saturdays (8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.); Binder Sports Complex - Monday through Thursday (approximately 5:45 - 11 p.m.).


SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL UMPIRES

Minimum Qualifications:  18 years of age preferred; ASA softball certification preferred.

Pay:  $12.25-$15.25 per game; depending on certification and experience.

Responsibilities: Umpire and record score at adult slow pitch softball games using the one-umpire system; administer games in a professional and responsible manner according to Parks and Recreation guidelines.

Hours:  Monday through Thursday evenings.


START SMART SOCCER, FOOTBALL & BASKETBALL STAFF (4)

Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age preferred; teaching/coaching experience preferred; basic knowledge of soccer, football and/or basketball fundamentals required; First Aid and  CPR certification preferred.

Pay:  Staff:  $6.65 - $7.65 per hour

Leader:  $7.00 – $8.00 per hour

Responsibilities: Help parents to teach their children (ages 3-7) the motor skills necessary to achieve success and confidence needed for organized sports; help create a positive first time sports experience.

Hours:  Soccer:  4:00 - 8:30 p.m, Thursday evenings.   (August - September)

Football: 5:15 - 8:30 p.m., Wednesday evenings. (September - October)

Basketball: 4:00 - 8:30 p.m., Wednesday evenings.  (January - February)


FLAG FOOTBALL OFFICIALS  (8-12)

Minimum Qualifications: 17 years of age preferred; knowledgeable in the rules of football; previous officiating experience preferred.

Pay: $9.25 - $10.75 per game.

Responsibilities: Officiate youth, 1st - 4th grades (NFL Flag) and/or 5th grade flag football games; represent Parks and Recreation in a positive, professional manner; handle game-related problems with players, coaches or fans.

Days/Hours:  5th grade games - Monday.  NFL Flag games - Tuesdays, Wednesdays and  Thursdays evenings (approximately 5:45 - 9 p.m.) and/or Saturday mornings (9 a.m. – 1 p.m.)


VOLLEYBALL OFFICIALS (2-6)

Minimum Qualifications:  19 years of age preferred; thorough knowledge of USAV and/or national federation volleyball rules; understanding of officiating mechanics; dependable, conscientious, consistent, willing to hustle; MSHSAA certification strongly preferred; membership in a recognized officials' association preferred.

Pay:  $11.00 - $14.00 per game for adult volleyball.

Responsibilities:  Referee adult volleyball games; represent Parks and Recreation in a positive, professional manner; handle game-related problems with players, coaches, or fans.

Hours: Games are Monday through Wednesday evenings depending upon gym availability.  Fall league begins September 2.   Winter league begins November 10.

 


  

BASKETBALL OFFICIALS (unlimited)             

Minimum Qualifications:  19 years of age for adult programs, 17 years for youth games; thorough knowledge of National Federation basketball rules; understanding of officiating mechanics; dependable, conscientious, consistent, willing to hustle; MSHSAA certification strongly preferred; membership in a recognized officials' association preferred.

Pay:  $9.25 - $10.50 for youth basketball games; $12.75 - $15.75 for high school basketball; $12.50 - $17.00 for adult basketball games.

Responsibilities:  Referee youth and/or adult basketball; represent Parks and Recreation in a positive, professional manner; handle game-related problems with players, coaches, or fans.

Hours:  Youth games are generally on Saturday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday evenings; adult games are Sunday through Friday evenings depending upon gym availability. 5th grade basketball begins November 6th, 6th grade basketball begins in February, High School basketball begins in early January and Adult basketball begins in December.


  

BASKETBALL SCOREKEEPERS (6-8)

Minimum Qualifications:  16 years of age preferred; understanding of the game of basketball and scoring procedures; dependable and conscientious.

Pay:  $6.75 - $7.75 per game.

Responsibilities:  Keep score and all pertinent game records at high school and/or adult basketball games; represent Parks and Recreation in a positive, professional, friendly manner.

Hours: High school games begin in January and continue through March on Tuesday through Thursday evenings; adult games begin in late October and continue through March on Sunday through Thursday evenings depending upon gym availability.
