Washington Park is a 100 acre, multifaceted park conveniently located off the 800 to 1200 blocks of Missouri Boulevard.
The Park Board, between 1929 and 1937, acquired much of Washington Park as gifts and purchases. In 1938, a request for a grant was made and the park was completed with the help of this grant. The area now known as the Lions Field was acquired in 1944 and the Duensing tract in 1948 as park development continued.
The park is the home of Ernie Vivion, Lions and Duensing Baseball Fields. Also on site are 7 lighted tennis courts, a 12-court horseshoe complex, 1.4 miles of the Jefferson City Greenway trail system, and the Washington Park Ice Arena. Washington Skate Park was completed in September 2000 and features obstacles for skateboarders and inline skaters.
The Skate Park is the newest addition to Washington Park. The Skate Park features half-pipes, fun boxes and grinding rails along with other obstacles. The park is open to skateboarders from 5 am until 11 p.m. daily.
