Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, or CPTED, is a crime prevention philosophy that attempts to apply physical design, citizen participation, and law enforcement strategies in a comprehensive way to protect neighborhoods and facilities.
The Crime Prevention Unit at the Jefferson City Police Department can provide a CPTED Security Survey for your home or business. The survey can help you protect your home or business by reducing the opportunities for crime to occur. The reduction of crime is achieved by employing physical design features that discourage crime while at the same time encouraging legitimate use of the neighborhood, facility, or business. Keep in mind that this is a free service provided by the Jefferson City Police Department.
Contents of the CPTED Security Survey:
- Cover Letter—a cover letter that describes what was evaluated and thanking you for your interest in a CPTED Security Survey provided by the Jefferson City Police Department.
- Advantages—all the advantages that are already incorporated as good CPTED strategies will be listed.
- Disadvantages—the disadvantages of the facility that do not employ good CPTED strategies will be listed.
- Precautions—all of the precautions for the facility will be listed that might hamper good CPTED strategies.
- Recommendations—recommendations will be listed for the facility to employ future CPTED strategies to help reduce the opportunity for crime to occur.
