What is Crime Stoppers?
Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization relying on cooperation between police, news media, and citizens. Crime Stoppers combines these efforts in our community’s fight against crime. Crime Stoppers encourages people to call in anonymously with information to solve crimes already committed, those about to occur, and/or the whereabouts of wanted persons.
How does Crime Stoppers work?
When you call the direct line, (573) 659-TIPS (8477), you give your information anonymously, and then you will be assigned a special code number. This code number is how you will identify yourself in all future dealings with Crime Stoppers. Your call will not be traced and you will not be required to testify. You will remain anonymous. Not even Crime Stoppers will know your identity.
Who qualifies for a Crime Stoppers Reward?
Only if information goes through Crime Stoppers can a person be considered to receive a reward. Each caller receives a code number and rewards are paid in cash to ensure anonymity. If your information leads to an arrest then you may receive a reward ranging from $50 to $1,000 depending upon the weight of your information. Your reward will be passed on to you after proper identification by code number at a prearranged location. The police will NOT be involved.
Who operates Crime Stoppers?
A group of concerned citizens comprise the Board of Directors. It is the duty of the board to oversee the operation of the program and approve rewards to be paid. The Board of Directors does NOT know who called in the information. They only know the facts of the case and the caller’s Crime Stopper identification number.
Who funds Crime Stoppers?
Crime Stoppers is funded solely by private, tax deductible donations from the community, including businesses, corporations, clubs, associations, and individuals. No local, state, or federal tax monies are used. If you would like to make a donation please mail your tax deductible contribution with your name and address to the above address.
Crime Stoppers and the Media
Crime Stoppers could not get its message out into the community without cooperation from the local media. Such strong support by the local media has a direct impact on our community’s fight against crime. Crime Stoppers does not pay for TV time or newspaper space. All expenses are absorbed by the cooperating media as a public service.
