Operations Division

Captain Mike SmithThe Operations Division is the largest Division in the Jefferson City Police Department and includes various Sections, including the Patrol Section, Traffic Section, Investigations Section, and the Reserve Officer program.  The Operations Division consists of seventy-five uniformed officers and two civilian technicians.  Officers assigned to the Patrol and Traffic Sections primarily utilize marked police cars during the course of their duties, but some also serve as motorcycle or bicycle patrol officers.  The Special Weapons and Tactics team (S.W.A.T.) is primarily comprised of officers within the Operations Division.

The Investigative Section is supervised by a Lieutenant who oversees six Detectives and a civilian Evidence Technician.  Investigative Section personnel are responsible for utilizing advanced investigative techniques to solve a myriad of crimes.  Members of the Investigative Section are also responsible for dignitary protection, FBI anti-terrorism task force initiatives, and active collaboration with the Central Missouri Major Case Squad.  Also within the Investigative Section are officers assigned to the Mid-Missouri Unified Strike Team and Narcotics Group (MUSTANG).  The goal of the MUSTANG Task Force is to combat narcotics activity through the use of undercover operatives and confidential informants.

Finally, the Reserve Officer program is made up of citizen volunteers who have acquired a peace officer license and who are commissioned by the Jefferson City Police Department to assist with the general Patrol function.
