The Planning and Zoning Commission reviews and processes applications for zoning map amendments, new subdivision plats, and Planned Unit Development site plans, for recommendation to the City Council. The Planning and Zoning Commission also reviews and recommends changes to the City’s Zoning Ordinance and the Comprehensive Plan.
The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of nine regular and three alternate members who are appointed by the Mayor. The Commission holds regular meetings the 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:15 P.M. in the Council Chamber at City Hall. These are public meetings and citizens are given an opportunity to voice their support or opposition to issues being considered.

Planning and Zoning Commission meetings are broadcast live on JCTV Channels 81, 12.2, 24.2. 41.2 or 0.2 at 5:15 p.m. on the date of the meeting. JCTV rebroadcasts the meeting on Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
