In addition to our JEFFTRAN passenger service, we offer a paratransit service called Handi Wheels. We serve about 1,718 clients who qualify under the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA). Handi Wheels operates during our regular business hours and is a "origin to destination " service.
Handi Wheels can pick up clients anywhere inside the city limits and take them to any destination within the city limits. All buses are wheelchair-lift equipped and provide transportation for those individuals who because of disability cannot travel to or from a "fixed route" bus stop or cannot get on, ride or get off a "fixed route" bus.
Handi Wheels riders must apply for and be approved in order to use this service. Applications and detailed service descriptions are available in standard print and accessible formats from:

With more than 1,718 clients in Jefferson City who qualify under ADA for this service, and with as many as 300 riders each day, it is necessary to schedule rides the day before. Our paratransit service uses a state-of-the-art computer and custom software to schedule these rides.

The cost of our paratransit service is $2.00 for each ride. Drivers aid passengers (when needed) to board (including securing wheel chairs) and they aid passengers when getting off (when needed). If a passenger requires additional help, i.e., getting into a business or office, Handi Wheels will provide transportation for an attendant (provided by the passenger) with no additional charge.
